Materials Laboratory Technician

Description of Duties: Under supervision, performs macro/microstructural testing and evaluation to support total lab operations.

POSITION SUMMARY

• Performs the acid digestion process of wet chemistry and failure analysis of metallurgical samples using microscopes.

• Testing metal samples to determine their physical properties.

• Preparing specimens by grinding, polishing and etching.

• Calibrates and sets up standardized material/metallographic testing stations.

• Assist and manages projects related to materials evaluation.

• Performs test data processing utilizing MS Word and MS Excel.

• Performs calculations, recording, and verifying of metallographic standards.

Education, Experience and Qualifications

• High School Diploma

• 0-5 years' experience in materials/metallography laboratory or engineering.

• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Ability to understand topics related to metallography, thermal spray coating, materials science, hardness, microstructure.

• Ability to pay meticulous attention to all aspects of a situation or task, no matter how small or seemingly unimportant.

• Standing / sitting time ratio is 80/20, respectively.

Familiarity with aerospace coatings and Lean methodologies are a plus.

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. We will require proof of status prior to employment.
