Job Title:

EDM Operator

This role involves setting up and operating EDM (electro‑discharge machining) equipment to produce high‑precision aerospace turbine engine components while maintaining strict quality and efficiency standards. You will load and set up parts, monitor production, perform detailed inspections, and ensure machines run safely and reliably on either conventional or 5‑axis EDM equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate EDM machines, including conventional and 5‑axis equipment, to produce precision turbine engine aerospace parts.

  • Load and securely fixture parts in the machine, ensuring proper alignment and setup before starting production runs.

  • Monitor machines during operation and inspect parts as orders run to verify they meet required specifications and tolerances.

  • Perform quality inspections using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other measurement tools to confirm dimensional accuracy.

  • Interpret and follow blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to produce parts to exact specifications.

  • Troubleshoot and correct issues with machine operation, part quality, or process defects to minimize scrap and downtime.

  • Prepare and maintain production logs and traveler documents to accurately record machine operation, job details, and daily output.

  • Set up and switch jobs as required, including changeovers and adjustments, with training and guidance provided as needed.

  • Maintain daily production efficiency of more than 98% while upholding strict quality standards.

  • Handle and protect high‑value aerospace components with a strong focus on quality, accuracy, and scrap reduction.

  • Work with various EDM technologies, including water‑based, oil‑based, and wire EDM systems, as required by the department.

  • Use basic computer skills to access work instructions, enter production data, and support documentation requirements.

  • Lift and move materials and parts weighing up to 50 pounds as part of routine job duties.

  • Follow all safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), and support a clean, organized work area.

Essential Skills
  • Experience operating CNC or other metal machining equipment in a production or machine shop environment.

  • Ability to set up and operate EDM machines or similar precision machining equipment, with training provided for specific systems.

  • Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other measurement devices for inspection.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with complex machinery and tooling.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.

  • Basic computer skills to support production reporting and documentation.

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Ability to read and write English to complete documentation and follow written instructions.

  • Capability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly.

  • Comfort working in confined spaces and in a production environment with varying noise levels.

  • Willingness and ability to comply with identification and work authorization requirements, including completion of required eligibility and compliance forms.

  • Ability to consistently maintain high quality and efficiency standards in a fast‑paced production setting.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous EDM experience, including conventional, 5‑axis, sinker EDM, or wire EDM operation.

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing or working with aerospace components.

  • Experience in CNC machining, including CNC mills and lathes, with familiarity in machine setup and changeovers.

  • Knowledge of machining tolerances, axes, and precision machining practices.

  • Familiarity with Haas, Mazak, or Fanuc‑controlled machines.

  • Experience with grinding, tooling, and G‑code programming or editing.

  • Comfort working with a high volume of EDM machines in a production environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and a quality‑focused mindset when working with high‑value parts.
