POSITION OVERVIEW/SUMMARY:
Metalex is expanding its high‑precision grinding capabilities and seeking an experienced CNC /OD Grinding Machinist to join our team. This role involves setting up and operating a variety of CNC horizontal, vertical, and specialty grinding machines to produce mission‑critical components with tight tolerances and high surface finish requirements.
You’ll work on challenging parts made from high‑performance materials including Inconel, titanium, and stainless steel, using state‑of‑the‑art equipment and tools in a clean, well‑supported, team‑oriented environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES ANDQUALIFICATIONS:
Set up and operate CNC /OD grinding machines including:
- Vertical Grinders: Large and Small Kehren
- Specialty Grinders: Gleason Curvic Coupling Grinder
- Select and mount grinding wheels appropriate for material, finish, and form; dress wheels manually or automatically as required
- Generate CNC grinding programs using conversational programming directly at the machine control (Fanuc, Siemens, etc.)
- Perform precision grinding to tolerances as tight as ±.0002″ with high surface finish quality
- Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and GD&T requirements
- Conduct in‑process inspections using micrometers, bore gages, air gages, and comparators to ensure parts meet dimensional and surface specifications
- Adjust programs and machine settings based on inspection feedback
- Follow routers and setup sheets; document work performed and deviations when needed
- Collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams to resolve technical issues
- Participate in cross‑training
, and contribute to a positive, team‑based work environment - Maintain clean and organized workspace following 6S and safety protocols
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, cycle time, and workflow
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating and setting up CNC /OD grinding machines
- Hands‑on experience with horizontal and/or vertical CNC and manual grinders
- Proficiency in conversational CNC controls and understanding of grinding cycles
- Deep understanding of grinding wheel selection, dressing techniques, and coolant use
- Strong knowledge of blueprints and GD&T interpretation
- Ability to perform accurate in‑process and final part inspections
- Strong mechanical aptitude and precision mindset
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand (no sitting) for extended periods
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (required for ITAR compliance)
