Role Description

The Machinist role at JF Berns Company, Inc. is a full-time, on-site position based in the Cincinnati Metropolitan Area. The Machinist will set up, operate, and monitor CNC and manual machines to produce precision components such as spindle liners, bar supports, and related accessories. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings, selecting appropriate tooling and materials, performing machine adjustments, and maintaining tight tolerances and quality standards.

The role involves inspecting finished parts using measurement tools, performing routine machine maintenance, and collaborating with engineering and production teams to resolve issues and improve processes. The Machinist is also expected to follow all safety procedures, maintain a clean and organized work area, and meet production schedules.

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in operating CNC and manual machining equipment, including setup, tooling selection, and adjustment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify part dimensions and quality.
  • Knowledge of machining processes for metals and alloys, including cutting speeds, feeds, and best practices for productivity and quality.
  • Understanding of shop safety standards, machine maintenance practices, and proper handling of tools and materials.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot machining issues and collaborate with team members to implement solutions.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a production team.
  • Previous experience as a machinist or in a manufacturing environment; vocational training or technical certification in machining is preferred.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and perform repetitive tasks in a production setting.
