JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary The Multi-Process Press Specialist is responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of multi-color lithographic printing presses (up to seven colors) and advanced coating systems. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, cross-functional capability, and ownership of the full production process, including setup, operation, troubleshooting, quality control, and documentation. This position supports end-to-end press and coating line performance, ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, and provides leadership and training to support team members.
The role is designed to support next-generation printing and coating technologies and requires flexibility to operate across multiple platforms.
- Production & Operations
Operate and oversee printing and coating lines in accordance with production schedules and customer specifications
Perform complete setup of presses and coaters, including plates, blankets, rollers, inks, coatings, and mechanical adjustments within tight tolerances
Ensure all materials (plates, inks, varnishes, substrates) are properly staged, verified, and available prior to production
Conduct pre-start checks and machine adjustments (registration, viscosity, oven settings, sheet alignment, etc.)
Monitor and adjust press and coating parameters during runs to maintain optimal performance, efficiency, and output
Ensure proper curing, color consistency, registration, and coating application throughout production
Identify, segregate, and document non-conforming product and spoilage - Quality Control & Continuous Improvement
Perform and document all required quality checks, including color matching, coating weight, and cure validation
Utilize color management systems and tools (e.g., X-Rite, Measure Color, IGT) to maintain and verify standards
Create and maintain color books, job samples, and production records
Collaborate with Quality and Production teams to troubleshoot issues and implement corrective actions
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, waste reduction (HFI), and operational efficiency - Equipment & Maintenance
Monitor equipment performance and assist in diagnosing mechanical and operational issues
Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, and minor repairs as required
Coordinate with maintenance teams on repairs and preventative maintenance needs
Evaluate equipment condition and advise management on potential operational or safety risks - Safety & Compliance
Lead and support safe work practices in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, food safety, and quality programs (e.g., GMP, SQF)
Follow and enforce lockout/tagout procedures and other critical safety protocols
Report and address unsafe conditions, incidents, or risks immediately - Documentation & Systems
Accurately complete all required production documentation, including work orders, downtime tracking, quality checks, and traceability records
Utilize plant systems (e.g., SAP, Shoplogix, Infinity) for data entry and reporting
Review and verify completed work orders for accuracy and completeness - Leadership & Support
Provide guidance, training, and support to other team members as needed
Coordinate workflow with material handling, scheduling, and production teams
Assist with job staging, scheduling support, and operational coverage as needed
Maintain strong housekeeping and 5S standards across the production area - Qualifications & Skills
Experience as a Pressman, Coater Maintainer, or equivalent role in a manufacturing environment
Demonstrated experience operating lithographic printing presses and/or industrial coating systems
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitudes along with sufficient math skills.
Working knowledge of shop mathematics and measurement tools.
Must pass a test to evaluate color acuity.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, feel, and operate tools, equipment, and controls, as well as reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear, and may occasionally sit. The role requires frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. The employee must also be able to work in an environment requiring sensory awareness, including the ability to detect process-related conditions.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
