Community Connection Coordinator

Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council

The Community Connection Coordinator will be responsible for the relationship-building and maintenance required for the Food Policy Council’s multi‑sector work, in addition to supporting the program’s communications initiatives across platforms and audiences. This position is based in the Greater Cincinnati region, and the role requires in‑person participation in activities at our office in Cincinnati, OH, and at other locations throughout the region.

About

the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council

The Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council is a cross‑sector collaboration of organizations and individuals working toward the vision of a resilient regional food system. We build networks, build capacity, amplify stories, and change policies.

About Green Umbrella

Green Umbrella leads collaboration, incubates ideas, and catalyzes solutions that create a resilient, sustainable region for all. We envision a vibrant community where sustainability is woven into our ways of life. Our systems‑level work has the goal of improving the health of our region's people, climate, and landscape. We do this by convening cross‑sector collaborations that work to affect policy, systems, and environment change.

About

the Role

The Community Connection Coordinator will report to the Director of the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council.

The Community Connection Coordinator will foster a sense of community, belonging, trust, and mutual care across the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council and its network of partners and supporters. If our work were a big feast around a communal table, this role would be at the front‑of‑house, calling out to invite people in, pulling a chair up for them, introducing them to the other diners, providing an overview of the meal at hand, and asking what they would like to eat.

As a result of this person’s work, the Food Policy Council will expand in a way that represents the key aspects of the food system and our 10‑county region to move forward on our policy priorities. The Community Connection Coordinator role will serve as a point person to whom Council and network members can bring ideas and concerns. This role will provide network members a clear understanding of how the Food Policy Council works and how they can engage with our programming and initiatives.

This person will ensure Council and network members are aware of work happening across the food system and have the information needed to amplify that work. They will forge connections with community partners, engage residents, and work collaboratively with the Green Umbrella team to further our mission of a resilient regional food system.

Responsibilities
  • Meet with network members and participate in other networks and coalitions, as well as community events, to hear people’s food‑related interests, concerns, and ideas; recruit representatives across the region and across sectors to serve on Council and its committees and/or participate in network activities; facilitate connections between network members; represent the Food Policy Council.
  • Identify opportunities for volunteers to contribute to Food Policy Council or network projects and manage any volunteers working directly with the Food Policy Council.
  • Provide support for Council and committee meetings.
  • Plan and execute public events in collaboration with Green Umbrella’s Events Manager and relevant partners.
  • Gather input, stories, and other data from network members and other sources to feed into project planning, policy work, reporting, and other communications.
  • Contribute to and maintain records in data systems to keep network organized.
  • Support communications needs of the Food Policy Council and its committees to keep the network well‑informed. This could include, but is not limited to, assisting in the drafting of stories, calls to action, and advocacy messaging across Food Policy Council‑related social media, newsletters, and website content in collaboration with Green Umbrella’s Communications Coordinator.
