Job OverviewHoxworth Blood Center (HBC), University of Cincinnati, was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 100,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. Hoxworth Blood Center:

The Hoxworth Blood Center is recruiting a full‑time (100% FTE) Apheresis Registered Nurse. The incumbent will screen prospective blood donors/patients and perform specialized and critical functions of apheresis collections and procedures. The compensation structure is tiered across multiple levels (RN, Advanced RN, and Senior RN) based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Schedule:
1st shift, Monday through Friday – 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, with rotating on‑call.
- Interview and screen prospective donors; apply FDA regulations, AABB standards, FACT standards and adhere to regulations/standards of other governing bodies.
- Perform physical examinations and secure detailed medical history of prospective donors and patients.
- Monitor and assess blood collection, apheresis process, assist with immediate and/or emergency care in case of a patient/donor reaction.
- Perform and monitor therapeutic apheresis procedures including plasma and red cell exchanges, photopheresis, leukodepletion and platelet depletion on patients of all ages.
- Perform peripheral blood stem cell collections and other specialized collection procedures on patients of all ages.
- Participate in research protocols.
- Assist and perform quality control functions, maintain and calibrate equipment.
- Communicate directly with donors/patients; provide customer service following standard procedures.
- Travel between hospitals within our community to perform procedures is required.
- Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
- Obtain badging at all hospitals within our community to perform procedures as required.
Graduation from an accredited registered nurse program.
Required Trainings/CertificationsCurrent Ohio RN license; must be able to obtain other state RN licenses as needed.
Required ExperienceExperience in intensive care, emergency or dialysis nursing, or intravenous therapy.
