We are seeking a skilled and empathetic Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) to join our Surgical Pain Services and Medical Pain Services teams. This role is essential in ensuring effective pain management for post-operative and medical patients during the evening hours, helping to promote comfort, safety, and continuity of care.
- Position Title: Family Nurse Practitioner
- FTE: 0.8 (32 hours per week)
- Shift: 12:30 PM – 11:00 PM, rotating day shift coverage on Saturdays. No holiday coverage is required.
Rounding on post‑operative surgical and medical pain service patients to ensure pain is appropriately managed and that a clear, comprehensive plan is in place for overnight care. This position plays a critical role in optimizing patient comfort and supporting recovery.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct evening rounds on post-operative surgical and medical pain service patients, assessing pain levels and overall clinical status.
- Develop, implement, and adjust individualized pain management plans in collaboration with surgical, primary, and pain management teams.
- Monitor patient response to pain interventions, ensuring comfort, safety, and effectiveness.
- Respond to acute pain issues arising during evening hours and modify plans as needed.
- Provide patient, family and nursing education regarding pain management strategies and recovery expectations.
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary care team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation of assessments, care plans, and interventions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing pain management protocols and patient outcomes.
- Licensed Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with active or eligible Ohio licensure.
- Previous experience in pain management, surgical services, acute care, or inpatient settings preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical‑thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Commitment to patient‑ and family‑centered care.
- Perform history and/or physical exams on patients presenting for care in area of expertise. Assess and diagnose illnesses, including chronic and acute conditions. Formulate, document and monitor a treatment plan. Order and monitor therapeutic interventions including but not limited to diets, laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests as deemed necessary.
- Provide clinical consultation, order interdisciplinary consults, and professional practice including prescription of medications in accordance with Federal and State Law & Rules and CCHMC policy.
- Maintain competency in subspecialty practice, skills and procedures, maintain professional behaviors aligned with core values and care standards, participate in quality improvement activities, and engage in lifelong learning and professional development.
- Maintain competence in care management, promote self‑management and family‑centered care, support integrated delivery of pediatric care services, delegate monitoring and interventions, and provide consultation to influence identified plans of care.
- Use systematic evaluation of assessment data & outcomes to revise diagnoses, outcomes and plans, and evaluate effectiveness of interventions.
