Position: Registered Nurse (RN -CN 1), Air Care/Mobile Care, Full Time, Nights, ONA

The Mobile ICU Nurse provides advanced critical care and emergency nursing services during the interfacility transport of critically ill and injured patients. Working as part of a specialized Critical Care Transport team, the nurse assesses, stabilizes, monitors, and manages patients requiring intensive care while ensuring safe transport via ground ambulance. The Mobile ICU Nurse collaborates closely with other members of the transport team and receiving facility staff to deliver evidence-based critical care throughout all phases of transport.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in OH.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of recent critical care experience in an ICU, Emergency Department, or comparable high‑acuity setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Ability to meet physical and medical requirements for transport team operations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN), or Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN). Must obtain advanced certification, CFRN or CTRN, within two years of hire.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification, or must obtain within 1-year of hire.
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification, or equivalent, or must obtain within 1-year of hire.
  • Previous critical care transport, or emergency transport experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of critical care nursing principles and emergency medicine.
  • Proficiency in ventilator management, vasoactive medication administration, and invasive monitoring.
  • Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to function independently in dynamic and resource-limited environments.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of transport safety, and emergency operations.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective during high‑stress situations.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and transport patients and equipment in confined spaces.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and work in moving vehicles or aircraft for extended periods.
  • Ability to work, weekends, holidays, and on‑call assignments.
  • Ability to tolerate varying environmental conditions and transport‑related stressors.
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive critical care nursing assessment and management of pediatric, and/or adult patients during transport.
  • Perform advanced patient stabilization and ongoing monitoring during transport.
  • Administer medications, blood products, vasoactive infusions, sedation, analgesia, and other therapies according to protocols and physician orders.
  • Manage patients requiring advanced airway support, mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, and specialized critical care interventions.
  • Operate and troubleshoot transport equipment including cardiac monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, and transport-specific medical devices.
  • Interpret ECGs, laboratory results, hemodynamic data, and other diagnostic information to guide patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with referring and receiving physicians, bedside staff, dispatch personnel, and transport team members.
  • Ensure compliance with transport policies, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and infection prevention practices.
  • Complete accurate and timely patient care documentation.
  • Participate in quality improvement, clinical education, simulation training, and continuing professional development activities.
  • Assist with vehicle, and equipment readiness checks and inventory management.
