Job Overview:
The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine’s Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for the Flex Intensive Care Unit (Flex-ICU) role involves caring for critically ill and injured patients, complex step‑down patients, organ donors, and undifferentiated transfer patients. Work schedule includes 12‑hour shifts, days and nights, weekdays and weekends; night‑only shifts may be available.
Essential Functions:
- Provide state‑of‑the‑art critical‑care to patients in Flex‑ICU.
- Perform critical‑care duties to stabilize and care for mixed critical‑care population per Standard Care Agreement.
- Develop treatment plans in collaboration with attending physician and multidisciplinary team.
- Prescribe and monitor medications per state and UCMC prescriptive authority.
- Perform procedures such as arterial catheter, central line, paracentesis, thoracentesis, bronchoscopy commensurate with skill and privileging.
- Participate in quality management, data collection, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned to support department mission.
Minimum Qualifications – Nurse Practitioner:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing from accredited program, acute care.
- Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority.
- Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty.
- Three (3) years nursing experience (additional experience may be required depending on specialty).
Minimum Qualifications – Physician Assistant:
- Master’s Degree from accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority.
- Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Minimum one (1) year experience (additional may be required depending on specialty).
Additional Qualifications Considered:
- Critical care experience as an APP expected.
- Exceptional new graduates may be considered.
- Experience with critical care bedside ultrasound (POCUS) preferred.
- Flexibility, teamwork, and enthusiasm desired.
