Job Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Nursing
  • Graduate from NP or CNS program
  • Specialty certification in area of expertise
  • Registered Nurse with APRN Licensure current in Ohio
  • Demonstrated expertise in area of clinical specialization
  • Professional membership in specialty nursing organization required within one year of start date
  • 3-4 years experience clinically in geriatric, occupational health, or other applicable setting
Job Overview

The APRN II is a nurse prepared with graduate-level nursing education and authorized to practice and prescribe as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Certified Nurse Practitioner in collaboration with physicians or podiatrists. Advanced clinical practice includes assessment, diagnostic testing, diagnoses, development of treatment plans, implementation, follow-up, and documentation. APRNs are clinical experts who design and evaluate patient-specific and population-based programs of care and promote care through various methods.

APRNs collaborate within the healthcare system and must have a collaborating physician in a Standard Care Arrangement. The APRN II must spend 50% of hours worked utilizing prescriptive authority in their advanced clinical practice role.

Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborates and consults with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, patient and family when diagnosing, prioritizing problems, and implementing interventions. Initiates referrals to other healthcare team members and promotes collaboration. Assists in selecting therapies that balance cost and quality of benefits. Collaborates in teaching, consultation, management, and research activities to improve outcomes.
  • Provides effective leadership. Designs and develops innovative solutions for patient care that utilize resource efficiency while maintaining or improving quality. Leads the development and application of protocols or evidence-based practice guidelines. Participates in healthcare-related decision-making with emphasis on improving patient outcomes. Serves on committees, councils, and administrative teams as appropriate.
  • Utilizes and disseminates research, evidence-based practice, or quality improvement projects to enhance clinical practice. May serve as primary or co-investigator in nursing or collaborative research. Evaluates current practice and integrates changes via EBP projects. Leads quality improvement initiatives and mentors nursing education and evidence appraisal.
  • Provides education to patients, families, and healthcare providers to promote best practice. Serves as teacher, mentor, and role model to nurses, nursing students, and staff. Supports patient education for health promotion and secondary prevention. Collaborates to assess and address patient and staff educational needs.
  • Ensures nursing practice is conducted ethically and legally, adheres to the Ohio Scope of Practice for APRNs, and provides safe, compassionate, competent, and ethical care.
