Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Participates in the implementation and evaluation of patient care, reporting and documenting incidents, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Duties and Activities Customer ServiceResponsible for upholding FMCNA culture through values and customer service standards. Accountable for outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers, developing effective relationships, and resolving service issues promptly.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties Patient Related- Provide direct patient care for assigned patients.
- Perform all technical aspects of dialysis procedures as prescribed.
- Administer and monitor treatments per current plan or supervisor direction.
- Monitor and document dialysis parameters, treatment reviews, and related information.
- Report significant patient condition changes or equipment problems to the supervisor.
- Educate patients and families on end‑stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medications.
- Assist with emergency operations and administer IV medication per orders and laws.
- Initiate CPR measures when necessary and respond to emergency situations.
- Safely operate all dialysis‑related equipment according to procedures.
- Provide troubleshooting when necessary.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
- Respond to blood spills per Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies.
- Operate emergency equipment per standard operating procedures.
- Participate in scheduled staff meetings and care‑plan meetings.
- Acquire current practice knowledge through in‑service classes.
- Serve as a resource for other staff members.
- Coordinate care plans with physicians, dietitians, and social workers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Daily duties include desk work, patient interaction, heavy lifting of patients and equipment up to 200 lb, prolonged standing, bending, and occasional travel between facilities. Requires ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects with assistance. Work occurs in a regulated health care environment with exposure to infectious materials.
EducationGraduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN, LVN) with current state licensure.
Experience and Required Skills- One year of medical‑surgical nursing experience preferred.
- Hemodialysis and ICU experience preferred but not required.
- Completion of a training course in hemodialysis theory and practice.
- CPR certification.
- Completion of the Nurses Technical Training Program upon hire.
- Ability to provide coverage during short‑staffing or as needed.
- Successful Ishihara Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
