Job Description

The Ohio Department of Behavioral Health seeks an experienced Registered Nurse to supervise psychiatric and developmental disability nursing services for adult forensic patients. The role includes clinical leadership, staff development, policy oversight, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee psychiatric and medical nursing services for adult forensic patient populations.
  • Ensure delivery of high‑quality, patient‑centered care that supports treatment goals and recovery outcomes.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to promote continuity of care and effective treatment planning.
  • Lead, supervise, and support nursing staff through scheduling, performance management, and professional development initiatives.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and mentorship, and address employee relations issues as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that promotes staff engagement and excellence in patient care.
  • Ensure adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
  • Monitor compliance with standards related to patient care, infection prevention, workplace safety, and quality improvement.
  • Support the implementation and communication of new policies and best practices.
  • Ensure nursing operations comply with all applicable healthcare regulations and accreditation standards, including CMS and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives to maintain regulatory readiness.
  • Manage staffing levels and allocate nursing resources to meet patient care needs effectively.
  • Oversee the utilization of equipment, supplies, and other departmental resources.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify operational needs and support efficient department performance.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous learning.
Qualifications

Requires:

  • Current license as a registered professional nurse in the State of Ohio.
  • At least 24 months experience in psychiatric nursing or delivery of nursing services to persons with developmental disabilities.
  • At least 3 months training or experience in employee training & development.
  • At least 9 months experience or equivalent coursework in public relations or counseling.
  • Proficiency in mental health, behavioral health, communications, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated skills in flexibility, leadership, problem solving, delegation, and staff development.
