Overview

Responsibilities- Supports the mission and strategic plan of the Department of Nursing.
- Collaborates with nursing faculty to evaluate students based on course outcomes.
- Facilitates the integration of theory and research in clinical practice.
- Creates assignments relevant to course outcomes and students’ learning needs.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with clinical agencies and personnel.
- Communicates goals for students’ clinical practice according to specified criteria.
- Evaluates the clinical agency’s effectiveness in providing learning experiences for students.
- Demonstrates knowledge of current trends in healthcare, nursing, and nursing education.
- Employs creativity in learning strategies, assessment, and nursing practice.
- Actively participates in professional organizations and community activities.
- Shows commitment to professional growth.
- Collaborates with colleagues in nursing and other disciplines.
Teaching Assistants (TAs) must be academically prepared for the areas in which they provide instruction under the direction of a faculty member. Academic preparation includes degree specialization, specialty coursework, or other preparation sufficient to address the major concepts in the courses.
- For the baccalaureate (BSN) program:
- TAs teaching clinical and/or lab must hold a graduate degree.
- Alternatively, TAs without a graduate degree must hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing, have significant clinical experience, and be enrolled in a graduate program in nursing or otherwise qualified (e.g., completed relevant graduate‑level courses, continuing education units, or national certification) for the clinical area(s) they teach.
- For the master’s (MSN‑MAGELIN) program:
- TAs must hold a graduate degree.
- TAs must hold an unencumbered RN license to practice in Ohio. If the clinical teaching is outside Ohio, the TA must hold an unencumbered RN license to practice in that setting.
- Membership in professional organizations is recommended.
- Minimum of 2 years of previous registered nursing practice is required; ongoing clinical nursing practice is recommended.
- Philosophy of nursing, education, and nursing education aligns with that of the University and the Department of Nursing.
- Thinking creatively and critically.
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Accepts responsibility for own actions.
- Punctual and thorough in completing assigned tasks.
- Works as a member of an interprofessional team in a changing environment.
- Seeks clarification or information before making decisions that affect University and Program operations.
- Serves as a professional role model for colleagues, students, and the professional community.
