Position Title: Registered Nurse II (RN) – Infectious Disease Outpatient Clinic
Department: Infectious Disease
Schedule: Part-Time – 32 Hours/Week
Location: Cincinnati Children’s Hospital – Burnet and Liberty Campuses

About the Role

At Cincinnati Children’s, we are driven by one purpose: to make children’s health better. The Infectious Disease Outpatient Clinic provides specialized care for pediatric patients with complex infectious diseases and immunologic concerns across a diverse patient population.

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse II (RN) to join our collaborative outpatient infectious disease team. This role combines direct patient care with comprehensive care coordination and offers the opportunity to develop strong relationships with patients and families navigating complex medical conditions. We have minimal clinics and high care coordination.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced ambulatory setting, values multidisciplinary collaboration, and is passionate about delivering family-centered care to medically complex patients.

Locations: Main location is Base Campus – secondary location is Liberty (one day a week for ½ day)

Schedule: consistent with M-F 8:00-4:30 (would be four days a week with flexible off day depending on team needs)

Key Responsibilities

Care Coordination – 70%

  • Coordinate care for patients with complex infectious disease conditions, including:
    • Tuberculosis (TB)
    • Immunocompromised patients
    • Transplant patients who are not immunized
    • Patients requiring long-term or high-risk antibiotic therapy
    • Patients with PICC lines
    • Infants born to mothers with positive HIV screening
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for patients and families
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among providers, pharmacists, home care services, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Support treatment adherence, patient education, follow-up appointments, and ongoing care management
  • Monitor laboratory results, diagnostic testing, and treatment plans

Direct Patient Care – 30%

  • Provide direct nursing care within the outpatient clinic setting
  • Perform patient assessments, administer treatments, and evaluate patient responses
  • Assist with medication management, patient teaching, and procedural support
  • Promote safe, evidence-based, family-centered care
Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience required
  • Strong clinical assessment and care coordination skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex outpatient environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pediatric nursing experience
  • Outpatient, infectious disease, infusion, transplant, or care coordination experience
  • Experience working with medically complex or immunocompromised patients
  • Familiarity with central line care and long-term antibiotic management
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Compliance
    - Patient Services Staff -
    Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in Compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Be mindful and judicious in monitoring safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Work with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives to identify and share safety best practices.

    Be mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and freely communicate safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.
  • Interprofessional Practice - Demonstrates consistent integration of the Interprofessional Practice Model (IPM) in all aspects of practice.
  • Clinical inquiry & performance review to improve practice - Follows standards and guidelines; implements clinical changes and research-based practices developed by others; recognizes the need for further learning to improve patient care; recognizes routine or obvious changing patient situation (e.g., deterioration, crisis); in unusual care situations, seeks help when needed to identify patient problem.
