Research Nurse Practitioner​/Physician Assistant

The University of Cincinnati seeks a Research Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant in the Department of Psychiatry. In this role, you will support clinical research activities, including patient assessment, protocol implementation, data collection, and coordination of study visits. You will collaborate with faculty, research staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, ethical research conduct. Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments of research participants, including histories, mental status examinations, and physical exams as indicated by protocol
• Determine participant eligibility by applying detailed inclusion and exclusion criteria for psychiatric research studies
• Obtain and document informed consent and assent, explaining study procedures, risks, and benefits in accessible language
• Initiate and manage study related medications and interventions within scope of practice and protocol, in collaboration with supervising psychiatrists and principal investigators
• Order, interpret, and follow up on laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and other protocol specified procedures
• Monitor for, document, and report adverse events and serious adverse events in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements
• Schedule and conduct research visits, ensuring all protocol required assessments and procedures are completed accurately and on time
• Administer standardized psychiatric rating scales and outcome measures, ensuring consistency and reliability in scoring
• Document clinical findings and research activities in the electronic medical record and research source documents with a high level of accuracy and detail
• Enter study data into case report forms and electronic databases, assist with query resolution, and support data quality initiatives
• Collaborate with investigators, research coordinators, and multidisciplinary team members to optimize study workflows and address operational challenges
• Support recruitment and retention of diverse participant populations through outreach, engagement, and patient centered communication
• Maintain compliance with IRB approvals, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, institutional policies, and HIPAA privacy regulations
• Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and journal clubs, contributing clinical insights and research perspectives
• Assist in the preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations related to psychiatric research projects conducted within the department
