Our Unit

The Cardiac Cath Lab at Tri Health Bethesda North is a crucial part of the Heart Hospital and cardiac program. It specializes in providing high acuity care for cardiac patients and has a clinical affiliation with Cleveland Clinic’s Heart, Vascular, and Thoracic Institute, which is known as the world’s leading heart program. Our procedural labs handle a high volume of diagnostic and interventional procedures related to heart conditions on a daily basis.

Procedures performed at Bethesda North include high-risk coronary intervention, chronic total occlusions, heart failure treatment, placement of mechanical support devices, and structural heart procedures such as transfemoral aortic valve replacements. We also operate a busy, off-hours STEMI program, delivering high-quality care that exceeds national benchmarks.

Job Overview

The Cath Lab RN is a healthcare professional who provides specialized procedural nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac catheterization procedures. This role works closely with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective, safe patient care.

Provides patient care, patient monitoring, and drug administration in the cath lab intra procedure under the direction of a Cardiologist to ensure patient safety and outcomes.

Assist in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures while maintaining sterile techniques.

Maintain accurate documentation of procedures, patient information and equipment usage.

On-call responsibility, which includes the ability to respond within 30 minutes to off-hours emergencies.

Job Requirements

Associate's Degree
- Nursing (Required)

New hires required to obtain BSN within 5 years of hire. (Required)

Knowledge, judgment, and skills derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to meet complex health care needs at various stages of the life cycle

Registered Nurse Required

CPR certification, ACLS certification, ECG rhythm interpretation knowledge, and knowledge of critical care medications

1-year critical nursing, 1-year ED nursing, or 1-year operating room nursing preferred

Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and handle emergencies effectively

Job Responsibilities

Demonstrates organizational responsibilities. Identifies areas for self-improvement through self-assessment and peer review. Functions in roles and provides leadership on the unit as needed and requested. Cooperates with instructor to facilitate learning experiences for students. Demonstrates knowledge and is supportive of organizational and unit changes. Supports organizational activities by participating in activities such as committees, staff meetings, councils. Utilizes chain of command appropriately.

Builds collegial relationships with physicians and other health team members. Demonstrates autonomy in identifying opportunities for process improvement.

Evaluates the plan of care for patient based on optimal specific patient outcomes. Documents the patient/family response to care including teaching. Collaborates with the patient/family and with other members of the health care team, including physicians, to revise plan of care as needed. Supervises the care that was delegated to other health care team members.

Implements plan of care for patient. Provides a safe and therapeutic environment while maintaining patient’s autonomy, dignity, and rights.
