Division - Pediatric Surgery Description Of APP Role

The Division of Pediatric Surgery is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Nurse Practitioner to join a collaborative Advanced Practice Provider team delivering comprehensive care to hospitalized surgical patients. This position provides 24/7 inpatient coverage across multiple pediatric surgical service lines and works closely with attending surgeons, fellows, residents, nurses, and multidisciplinary team members to provide high-quality, evidence-based care.

The Acute Care Surgical NP manages patients throughout the continuum of hospitalization, including pre-operative evaluation, post-operative management, acute clinical assessment, coordination of care, patient and family education, discharge planning, and consultation services.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with surgical teams
  • Manage post-operative and medically complex surgical patients
  • Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory and diagnostic test results
  • Perform procedures consistent with credentialing and scope of practice
  • Respond to acute clinical changes and escalating patient care needs
  • Coordinate transitions of care and discharge planning
  • Provide patient, family, and staff education
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and care conferences
  • Ensure timely documentation and communication across care teams
Experience

Minimum 1-2 years of pediatric acute care, critical care, emergency medicine, or surgical experience preferred

New graduates with significant pediatric acute care clinical experience may be considered

Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant - NP

Qualifications
  • Certification-FNP, Acute Care, Primary Care, PA, any
  • Specialty experience preferred (ED experience, Surgical experience, etc.)
Schedule
  • Shift length: 12 hours
  • Rotating shifts
  • Holidays- yes
  • Weekends- yes
  • Call-yes
  • JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Scope for subspecialty role will not exceed the scope of the collaborating or supervising MD

Job Qualifications
  • Master's degree in related field. May require clinical license, certification or training OR Doctor of Nursing Practice degree
  • Preferred:
    Experience as an APP in subspecialty
  • Licensure and certification in accordance with CCHMC Delineation of Privileges
  • Multi-state licensure in addition to Ohio licensure may be required based on subspecialty
