Job Overview

Senior Laboratory Associate is a full‑time (100% FTE) position supporting the instructional and operational needs of teaching laboratories across UC Clermont College’s Science and Health Department. Salary commensurate with experience. The position is open until filled.

Essential Functions
  • Laboratory Preparation & Instructional Support
    • Prepare laboratory materials for all scheduled courses, including reagents, solutions, media, specimens, cultures, and equipment.
    • Supporting labs may include A&P, Microbiology, Biology, Cell Biology, Environmental Studies, Ecology, and Allied Health (Physical Therapy Assistant and Surgical Technician programs).
    • Set up and break down laboratory exercises according to faculty lab manuals and course schedules.
    • Maintain and catalog bacteria cultures, prepare agar plates and different types of media.
    • Coordinate lab preparation timelines with multiple instructors to ensure readiness for concurrent courses.
  • Laboratory Operations & Organization
    • Oversee daily operations of teaching laboratories, prep rooms, and shared lab spaces.
    • Maintain clean, organized, and functional lab environments in compliance with institutional standards.
    • Manage chemical and biological waste disposal according to regulations by UC Environmental Health and Safety (EHS).
    • Schedule laboratory spaces and shared equipment with faculty, staff and department.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including chemical hygiene, biosafety, blood borne pathogens, UC guidelines and OSHA standards.
    • Maintain records of training certificates for all faculty, staff and students.
    • Manage chemical and biological inventories, labeling, storage, compatibility, and disposal.
    • Coordinate hazardous waste handling and disposal per local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Train faculty, staff, and student workers on laboratory safety procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Equipment & Resource Management
    • Maintain purchasing card and digital records for financial accounts in UC’s Concur System.
    • Order, receive, and track lab supplies and equipment within departmental or grant budgets.
    • Maintain, troubleshoot, and coordinate repairs for laboratory equipment such as microscopes, incubators, autoclaves, micropipettes, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Planning, Documentation & Institutional Support
    • Maintain accurate records for inventory, safety documentation, equipment maintenance, and lab usage.
    • Communicate with IT and Facilities departments to solve computer problems and create maintenance work orders.
Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of experience – or – Associate degree with four (4) years of experience.

Ideal Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three (3) years of biology and/or microbiology lab experience – or – a Master’s degree in Biology, Microbiology or a closely related field.

  • Office environment; no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
