Quality Technician – 2nd Shift

The Quality Technician supports a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment by performing detailed inspections, precise measurements, and thorough documentation to ensure all components meet internal specifications and industry standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001. This role works on 2nd shift (3:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.) and requires strong attention to detail, proficiency with measurement tools, and the ability to identify and document nonconformities while collaborating closely with production, engineering, and quality teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process, first-article, and final inspections on aerospace components using precision measurement tools.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation to verify product conformance.
  • Conduct dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other metrology equipment.
  • Perform inspections using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), when applicable, to verify three-dimensional coordinates and geometric tolerances.
  • Utilize optical comparators and other advanced metrology tools to measure and verify 2D dimensions and critical features.
  • Document inspection results accurately and maintain complete quality records in accordance with AS9100 and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Identify nonconforming material, segregate it appropriately, and support the Material Review Board (MRB) process.
  • Assist with root-cause analysis and corrective actions to address quality issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct visual inspections in accordance with aerospace standards, including evaluation of surface finish, defects, and foreign object damage (FOD) prevention.
  • Participate in internal audits, process verifications, and continuous improvement initiatives related to quality and inspection processes.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve quality concerns quickly and effectively.
  • Support calibration efforts for measurement devices to ensure ongoing accuracy and reliability of inspection tools.
  • Use ERP and/or MES systems to record inspection data, track nonconformances, and support traceability requirements.
  • Follow all safety, compliance, and company policies while working on the production floor and in inspection areas.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in blueprint reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Hands-on experience using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
  • Experience working in aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with quality inspection, quality control, and quality assurance practices.
  • Ability to perform detailed dimensional inspections and document results accurately.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 (or ISO 9000) quality management standards.
  • Experience using metrology tools and equipment in a production or inspection setting.
  • Comfort using ERP and/or MES systems to record and track quality data.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity to handle delicate parts and inspection equipment safely and accurately.
  • Good vision for close inspection work, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Comfort working around machining, fabrication, or assembly environments within the aerospace sector.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) for complex dimensional inspections.
  • Experience with basic and advanced metrology tools, including optical comparators.
  • Familiarity with 3D scanners and CT scanners that generate precise 3D point clouds for advanced inspection.
  • Exposure to foreign object damage (FOD) prevention practices in aerospace environments.
  • Participation in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives related to quality systems.
  • Experience supporting calibration programs for measurement devices.
  • Ability to work effectively on 2nd shift (3:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.) in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
