Summary
The Associate Food Scientist leads the development of new product formulation from benchtop to commercialization for the company brands, customer private labels and Food Service customers with guidance in a fast-paced environment. He/she works closely with Sales, Marketing and Project Management team for commercialization of new products. This role also supports the Operation, QA and Procurement team for maintenance of ingredients, products and processes.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Leadership and ownership of assigned new product development and quality improvement with some guidance
- Formulate products from bench-top to commercialization within assigned commercialization timeline and among multiple product categories.
- Ability to translate and scale up culinary gold standards to commercialization.
- Generate innovative food product ideas for branded, private label and Food Service opportunities, some with Consumer Insight validation.
- Work in close cooperation with Sales and Marketing team to present products to customers and drive customer focused development.
- Provide necessary technical support to customers, Procurement, Operations and QA when needed.
- Conduct and document sensory evaluation of products. Work with our Sensory department on designing and conducting tests.
- Record keeping of formulas, ingredients, plant trials and finished products
- Use of laboratory equipment to test product samples, validate methods and generate reports
- Use Genesis to generate Nutrition Fact Panel and formula to specific nutrition and ingredient statement.
- Use of ERP system for ingredient and formula maintenance
- Review product labels
- Stay up to date on product trends to design relevant innovative products.
- Other duties are requested
- BS or MS in food science or related field
- Proven track record of successful product development from concept to commercialization
- Solid organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple projects and assignments
- Demonstrated ability to learn and share learning
- Demonstrated business acumen
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication and attention to details
- Respect confidentiality of privileged information
- Experience 1-3 years in Food product development
- Experience in formulating refrigerated products is a plus
