The Fernandez Lab at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to lead new projects at the interface of light-driven physiology, circadian and sleep biology, and gut–brain communication.

About the Role

You will design and execute studies investigating retinal and brain circuits that regulate light-driven behavior and affect, using mouse models. The position offers extensive opportunities for collaboration within a vibrant neuroscience community (60+ basic research labs) adjacent to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, with active graduate and postdoctoral training programs.

Qualifications (Required)
  • PhD (or equivalent) in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Physiology, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with neural circuit tracing and in vivo/ex vivo approaches
  • Proficiency in one or more neural activity techniques (e.g., fiber photometry, EEG, optogenetics)
  • Working knowledge of genetic mouse lines and colony management
  • Experience with behavioral assays relevant to circadian rhythms, feeding, and affective responses
Preferred / Plus
  • Background in gut–brain communication, microbiome, or metabolite signaling
  • Quantitative skills (Python, MATLAB, signal processing, statistics)
  • Experience with PERG/ERG, calcium imaging, or MEA
  • Strong record of teamwork and mentoring
