Post Doc Fellow, Division of Cardiovascular Health & Disease

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Health & Disease is currently accepting applications for a full-time Post-Doctoral Fellow within Dr. Phillip Owens Laboratory. This position is 100% research and offers a competitive NIH-based salary plus benefits.

Essential Functions:

  • Follow established research protocols to perform experiments in the lab.
  • Design laboratory experiments in coordination with the PI.
  • Understand the scientific principles involved in the research and use those principles to troubleshoot and adjust the protocol as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments.
  • Interpret data and judged validity of data.
  • Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data.
  • Operate standard laboratory equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and correct erroneous results/problems with laboratory equipment and procedures.
  • Assist in training other post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment.
  • Assist in daily operations of the laboratory including organization and cleanliness.
  • Maintain an active role in laboratory meetings, presentations, publications, which includes contributing material for publications, abstracts and reports.
  • Be willing to perform mouse-based in vivo experiments.
  • Apply professional knowledge, skills, and training to lead an innovative and translational new project examining the role of platelets in abdominal aortic aneurysm disease.
  • Responsible for experimental execution as well as data compilation, analysis, interpretation, and communication related to the project.
  • Contribute to other projects on atherosclerosis, deep vein thrombosis, and abdominal aortic aneurysm within the lab.
  • Develop own project and apply for independent funding.

Required

Education:

Doctoral Degree (PhD) in biology or related field.

Required Experience:

One year of postdoctoral experience. One year of dedicated grant writing experience.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
