Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW (Miraldi) - Computational Immunobiology

Job Overview

Dr. Miraldi’s Immuno-Engineering Laboratory seeks a computational research fellow to build mathematical models of the immune system in vivo. These models will be constructed from cutting-edge, high-dimensional immune-system measurements such as single-cell genomics, chromatin state, and proteomics. The mathematical modeling framework ranges from mechanistic (dynamic gene regulatory networks) to deep learning (prediction of cellular epigenomes from DNA sequence). Situated at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the role focuses on designing computational methods and systems-immunology studies that ultimately improve the health of children.

The fellow will collaborate closely with physicians, experimental immunologists, and other computational biologists to iteratively test and refine models, yielding novel insights into immune-cell function and guiding therapeutic strategies in autoimmunity, infectious disease, and cancer.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, execute, and record laboratory experiments and analyze the data.
  • Research and improve current methods, evaluate innovative techniques, and implement this knowledge in the Division/Department.
  • Present research at laboratory meetings, journal clubs, seminars, and meetings.
  • Draft, write, and edit scientific reports, papers, journal articles, abstracts, and grants.
  • Maintain currency in the field through continuing education, literature, and seminars.
  • Attend required Cincinnati Children’s training sessions and ensure regulatory compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - External

Required: Ph.D. in a related discipline, MD, or equivalent degree.

Preferred: Quantitative background in computational/systems biology, engineering, computer science, statistics, math, or a related field. Fluent in at least one programming language (Python, R, MATLAB) and willing to develop fluency in other languages. Research experience in machine learning, bioinformatics, and/or mathematical modeling. Trackable publication record. Enthusiasm and willingness to develop immunology expertise on the job.
