Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. The Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences is a top-tier department with world-renowned faculty and staff.

A full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position is available to work under general supervision of Katherine Burns, PhD. The Burns Laboratory’s research is focused on studying endometriosis, a gynecological disease that affects millions of women. The successful applicant will be involved in examining the etiology of endometriosis using a mouse model of disease and human tissue samples. The goals of the current project are to dig deeper into immunotoxicant regulation during the development of endometriosis.

The ideal candidate will be a recent PhD graduate with background in reproductive biology or immunology to assist the Principal Investigator and laboratory. This position will conduct research and/or analyze research data and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of the University of Cincinnati. Preferences will be given to those with experience in spectral flow cytometry, RT-PCR, primary cell culture/cell culture, and animal handling techniques.

Prior experience with mouse husbandry, mouse surgery, tissue collection, or scRNA sequencing analysis are desired, but not required. He or she will be expected to work independently and with the team, plan and execute experiments, prepare and revise manuscripts for publication, present preliminary findings, and help mentor undergraduate/graduate students. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee.

  • Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare and communicate data summaries, reports, manuscripts, and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
  • Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.
