Research Fellow, Patra Lab, College of Medicine, Division of Cancer Biology

A full-time Research Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Krushna Patra, PhD, in the Department of Cancer Biology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The research focus of the lab is to understand the interplay of cellular signaling, metabolism, and gene regulation in tumorigenesis processes. The employee will have the opportunity to be involved in the active research environment to answer important questions related to the development and treatment of pancreatic, lung, and other gastrointestinal cancer.

This experience will be valuable to pursue graduate school, medical school or other related higher studies. With substantial involvement in the research projects, the candidate may share authorship in the publications from the laboratory.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform and conduct duties and responsibilities required by professional mentor in accordance with all institutional and federal regulations.
  • The primary duty of the position is to assist in performing experiments related to tissue culture (maintenance of cancer cells and organoids) and molecular biology (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, biochemical assays, and western blot)
  • Record data according to research protocols. Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. May perform statistical and graphical analysis of data.
  • Assist in animal colony management and animal husbandry. Apply research principles for less complex assignments.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. Organizational skills related to lab experiments and operation is an essential requirement.

Required

Education:

Bachelor's Degree.

Additional Qualifications Considered:

  • Have a bachelor's degree in any discipline of biological sciences (such as biology, genetics or in a related field).
  • Prior laboratory research experience such as hands-on training in molecular biology techniques, knowledge of Microsoft word, excel and power point to record and organize experimental data, and animal (mouse) handling.
