Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. Research Visiting Scholars at the University of Cincinnati are expected to conduct research, train students, scholarly and other professional or creative activities.

A full-time Visiting Scholar position (research only and paid) is available in the laboratory of Guo-Chang Fan, PhD in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neurobiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The laboratory conducts research in the field of cardiovascular and systemic metabolism with the goal of identifying physiological mechanisms, cellular signaling and gene regulation pathways that underline cardiac energetics complications with important ramifications in heart failure, septic cardiovascular dysfunction and sterile inflammatory cardiomyopathy.

Essential Functions
  • Design and perform experiments, data analysis, interpretation, and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
  • Report progress in an organized fashion during group meetings and one-on-one meetings with the Principal Investigator.
  • Attend meetings, prepare materials for training undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Write manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
  • Interact with senior and junior members of the lab.
Required Education
  • Doctoral Degree in the appropriate field or discipline, or the recognized terminal degree and prior academic experience related to critical care or sepsis.
Required Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in flow cytometry, immune-staining, immunoprecipitation, ELISA, real-time PCR, Western-blot, cell culture, and animal sepsis model as well as publications.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
