The Seven Hills School is seeking a talented and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team. This is a full-time position. Hours during the school year are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m.
-3:00 p.m. and hours during the summer are approximately 6 hours per day. The Sous Chef will work directly under the Head Chef to oversee kitchen operations, supervise staff, and ensure the preparation of high-quality meals. This role is ideal for a creative, organized, and passionate culinary professional ready to take on a leadership position.
- Assist the Head Chef in menu planning, recipe development, and food presentation
- Supervise kitchen staff and delegate tasks to ensure efficient workflow
- Prepare and cook meals according to organization standards and recipes
- Monitor food quality, portion control, and consistency
- Enforce food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards
- Train and mentor junior kitchen staff
- Manage inventory, ordering, and storage of food supplies
- Address guest feedback and resolve kitchen-related issues promptly
- Step in to lead the kitchen during the Head Chef’s absence
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional experience required
- Proven experience in a similar role within a fast-paced kitchen
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen equipment
- Leadership, communication, and team management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Capability to walk, bend, and reach throughout shifts
- Comfortable working in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment
- Tolerance for heat, humidity, and sometimes cold environments (e.g., walk-in coolers)
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs
