Modern Ice is building a dedicated new business hunting function focused on penetrating high-value accounts currently aligned with top competitors.
This role owns a named target list of ~50 strategic accounts with meaningful revenue potential and strong competitive lock-in. Your job is to create demand, disrupt entrenched incumbent relationships, and convert these accounts into long-term Modern Ice customers.
You’ll be selling capital equipment and engineered solutions
—including new ice plant builds, plant expansions, and replacement of existing equipment.
This is not an account management role. This is pure new business development
—strategic, methodical, persistent, and aggressive when it counts.
- Prospect and penetrate competitive, hard-to-break accounts
- Build relationships within target organizations
- Identify technical, operational, and economic pain points and position Modern Ice solutions
- Lead complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles from first contact to close
- Develop and execute account-specific pursuit plans
- Displace incumbents through value, credibility, and execution—not price alone
This role requires regular time inside operating ice manufacturing plants
. These are industrial, blue-collar environments that can be cold, wet, noisy, and hands-on. You must be comfortable engaging directly with plant managers, operators, and maintenance teams on the plant floor.
If you prefer office-based selling or executive-only meetings, this role will not be a fit.
The role involves approximately 50% travel
, with in-office time required when not visiting customers. Given the complexity of the industry and solutions sold, a fully immersive, in-person onboarding and working environment is critical to ramp effectively and succeed long term.
- 5+ years of successful B2B hunting or new-business development experience
- Background in industrial distribution, manufacturing, capital equipment, or engineered solutions
- Proven track record of winning competitive deals or displacing incumbents
- Experience selling technical or engineered products with longer sales cycles
- Strong research, planning, and territory execution discipline
- Ability to build compelling business cases and ROI justification
- Bachelor’s degree in business, communication, engineering, or related field
