Dealer Relationship Manager Primary Duties and Responsibilities

OverviewThe Dealer Relationship Manager is responsible for driving growth within GECU’s Indirect Program by prospecting, onboarding, and managing relationships with dealer partners. This role serves as the primary relationship manager for assigned dealers, focusing on regular dealer visits, consistent touchpoints, and personalized relationship development to increase auto loan production and long‑term partnership success. The Dealer Relationship Manager strengthens market presence by activating new dealer partners, maintaining high levels of dealer engagement, and collaborating cross‑functionally to support dealer needs.
This role requires frequent travel within GECU's field of membership, approximately 50–70% of the time, as well as travel to corporate headquarters 1–2 times per month.
Essential Responsibilities- Proactively prospect, onboard, and activate new dealer partners, ensuring a strong launch into GECU’s indirect lending program
- Maintain and cultivate ongoing and new dealer partner relationships to drive long‑term engagement and increased auto loan production volume
- Conduct regular, recurring dealer visits and touchpoints to strengthen relationships, identify opportunities, and support dealer performance
- Present a positive impression in every interaction, maintaining professionalism with dealers, their customers, other financial institution representatives, GECU members, and others encountered while in the field at partner dealers
- Ensure timely and consistent follow‑up on all dealer communications, commitments, and tasks
- Manage relationships with finance and sales teams, and handle complaints and communicate dealer feedback to upline management
- Actively report on dealer concerns, production trends, areas of success, and competitor advantages to management to maintain a competitive edge and mutually beneficial relationship
- Work collaboratively with the Dealer Development team to support and onboard new dealer partners and expand GECU’s indirect market share
- Effectively communicate with dealer partners on program enhancements, promotions, and rate updates
- Participate in the Dealer Due Diligence and audit process to support the teams’ responsibilities and goals
- Update and maintain dealership program details, rate structures, and contact information
- Research and resolve dealer issues by coordinating with appropriate internal teams and dealer staff, including chargebacks, funding notifications, titles, and deals held in funding
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of GECU’s indirect lending programs, products, services, and relevant industry trends
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to meet and exceed current production and growth goals
- Perform other duties to support the department as needed
- High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred
- Minimum two years of customer service experience required
- Minimum one year of experience working in a financial institution (FI) or related industry required
- Basic understanding of FI products and services
- Professional demeanor with a strong, self‑driven commitment to relationship development and results
- Proven interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and long‑term dealer partnerships
- Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage a dealer territory effectively
- Self‑starter who demonstrates accountability, initiative, and a positive, solutions‑oriented attitude
- Detail‑oriented multitasker with strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Working knowledge of Meridian Link, DNA, title processes, and general accounting principles a plus
