Job OverviewHoxworth Blood Center (HBC), University of Cincinnati, was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 100,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. Hoxworth Blood Center is the only regional blood center owned and operated by a university in the United States.
The university is gathering a full‑time Laboratory Assistant to support the Components Manufacturing Laboratory personnel with laboratory testing preparation and related work. The incumbent will train on the first shift and then work the second shift (Monday‑Friday, 3:30 p.m.‑12:00 a.m., with rotating weekends). This position supports the university’s mission and commitment to excellence.
- Assist with laboratory testing preparation and other related work, including assembling specimen kits, preparing specimen collection outfits, receiving and sorting blood samples, aiding in reagent preparation, disposing of samples after analytical completion, and assisting in sample identification.
- Clean laboratory equipment and instruments, pack/unpack and distribute related laboratory material, sterilize delivered glassware, inspect for cracks, shuffle and ship mailing containers and specimens, and maintain furniture; store section supplies.
- Prepare and maintain work‑related records, such as card files on supplies and related equipment and lists of sample parameters requested by each unit.
- Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
