Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM), one of the nation's oldest medical schools, is renowned for training exceptional healthcare professionals and advancing innovative research. In collaboration with UC Health and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, our faculty are transforming patient care through groundbreaking discoveries and clinical excellence.
We are seeking a full-time Research Scientist in the Department of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The successful candidate will be a skilled and self-motivated researcher with interest and experience in investigating the impact of polytrauma and critical illness on patient outcomes by determining the physiologic, hematologic, and inflammatory effects of resuscitation, transportation, and transfusion after traumatic injury utilizing basic, translational, and clinical research platforms .
This position is embedded within the Cincinnati Research in Trauma (CRIT) team, a multidisciplinary group dedicated to advancing trauma science and improving outcomes for critically injured patients. This position requires leadership in the development, design, execution, and analysis of basic and translational research projects. The Research Scientist will also work with and mentor surgical trainees in related research projects and manuscript preparation.
Essential Functions
- Lead independent and collaborative research programs in trauma, transfusion, and coagulation science.
- Design and conduct basic and translational studies; analyze and interpret complex datasets.
- Mentor surgical trainees in research design, grant writing, and manuscript development.
- Contribute to teaching within the lab environment of the department.
PhD in a relevant basic science discipline.
Additional Qualifications Considered
- Expertise in endothelial pathobiology, coagulation science, or immunology.
- Experience mentoring trainees or junior investigators.
- At least 2 years of experience in trauma, resuscitation, or critical care research.
- Demonstrated success in manuscript (first or senior author) and grant preparation.
- Proficiency in experimental design and statistical analysis.
