Shift40 weekly hours (8-hour shifts, rotating weekends) 2:30 PM – 10:30 PM.
Job SummaryThe Protective Services Officer provides internal and external safety/security functions to support the general safety of Mercy Health facilities, including participation in investigations and detentions when warranted. Officers are assigned to an area and respond to radio or telephone calls for routine and/or emergency assistance.
Essential Functions- Protect patients, visitors and employees by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and mitigating environment-of-care safety hazards.
- Deters criminal activity through routine patrols of hospital property, including parking lots and decks.
- Enforces policies (e.g., parking regulations, visitation, drug enforcement, and tobacco-free/smoking policy).
- Monitors hospital activity on closed-circuit television and responds to escalating situations requiring protective services involvement.
- Intervenes in patient, visitor and staff confrontations as appropriate.
- Documents all duties performed, including daily activity logs and incident reports.

Education- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Vocational/Technical Degree (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license (required)
- BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required within 6 months of hire)
- 1–2 years of security, law enforcement, or military experience (preferred)
- Hard/Technical/Clinical
Skills:- Basic skills using Microsoft Word
- Proficiency in use, maintenance, and safety protocols for defensive tools and restraint equipment (e.g., batons, handcuffs, body-worn cameras, soft restraints) in alignment with healthcare regulations and organizational policies
- Maintain strong technical skills in radio communication, report writing, surveillance systems, and access control software, with the ability to accurately document incidents and coordinate with clinical teams and law enforcement

- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (Required within 6 months of hire)
