Overview

Compensation: $24.01 / hour

Department: Bailiff Division

Location: 1000 Main Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202

Work Hours: 35 hours per week; M-F 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Overtime coverage as needed. May vary based on need

Supervisor Responsibilities: None

Description: Under general supervision, this position provides armed Bailiff services for Hamilton County. Bailiffs maintain the safety, security, neutrality, integrity, and confidentiality of the court system, and serve and execute court orders. Bailiffs prevent potentially life-threatening activities directed toward judges, court personnel, jurors, witnesses, defendants, prisoners and the general public; and maintain order in the courtrooms and common areas. Bailiffs execute and serve court orders throughout Hamilton County including capiases, warrants, subpoenas, evictions, attachments, repossessions, and executions.

ResponsibilitiesCOURTROOM

SECURITY
  • Maintains security over inmates to/from/during court hearings and maintains courtroom security and decorum during proceedings.
FIELD DUTY SERVICES
  • Serves and executes court orders e.g. capiases, warrants, subpoenas, evictions, attachments, repossessions, and executions.
  • Executes court processes directed to Bailiff’s office.
  • Completes records documenting type of service.
  • Investigates and takes custody or issues citations of persons under the discretion of court ordered warrants and orders of detention (including body attachments).
SECONDARY DUTIES: GENERAL COURTHOUSE SECURITY
  • Provides fixed post and/or security at assigned areas to protect life and property of county personnel and citizens.
  • Enforces state statutes and performs high visibility preventative security.
  • Responds to special security needs and duress alarms.
DOCUMENTATION
  • Prepares and submits written reports pertaining to crimes, incidents, activities and other violations.
  • Promptly informs supervisors of unusual incidents or conditions.
TRAINING & CERTIFICATION
  • Fulfills all public safety obligations as prescribed by law and certification training plus any additional training as required by the Administration.
  • Acquires and maintains all state-required certifications and requalification.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must have valid driver’s license and minimum required liability insurance under State law
  • RCIC certification; may be obtained within 1 year after employment
  • Must have and maintain yearly firearm and Taser certification
  • Required: (1) Commission certificate of completion of an O.P.O.T.A. approved peace officer training program; OR (2) Commission certificate of completion of a peace officer training program from a state other than Ohio with a curriculum approved by the Chief Administrator OR (3) Completion of a forty-hour O.P.O.T.A. approved firearms training program. Note:
    Twenty –hour firearms, Private Security certification or CCW Permit will not qualify as a replacement for the forty-hour firearms O.P.O.T.A. certification.
  • Required:
    All candidates must provide documentation of firearm qualification with an authorized duty weapon or compete re-certification within reasonable time of employment offer or start of employment
