Police Officer, Public Safety & Security Second Shift

Job Description

Perform general duty police work in the protection of life and property through crime prevention and enforcement of Federal, State, and local laws on all UC Health properties in Cincinnati, OH.

• Minimum high school education or GED.
• Some college coursework in Criminal Justice or a related field preferred.
• Hospital Security or Police experience preferred.

• Graduated from an approved Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy and eligible for a State of Ohio police commission.
• Possess OPOTA or OSP certification with the required training hours.
• Not have a break in service as a commissioned police officer for longer than one year.
• Previous police officer experience preferred.
• Pass a psychological exam provided by UC Health.

• Conduct patrol of property and/or facilities by foot, bike, or vehicle to prevent, discover, and deter the commission of crime.
• Enforce criminal law, direct traffic, and enforce parking regulations to ensure a safe and secure environment.
• Respond to calls and complaints involving alarm activation, automobile accidents, domestic and other disturbances, misdemeanors, and felonies.
• Cooperate with co‑workers and other associates, maintaining a respectful and professional demeanor toward patients, visitors, and the public.
• Write detailed reports on police-related activities; document violations of UC Health or departmental policies; interview persons with complaints; secure crime scenes; administer first aid; arbitrate disputes; conduct preliminary and follow‑up investigations; gather evidence; apprehend suspects; make arrests; provide advice and general information to inquiries from associates, visitors, patients, and the public.
• Enforce UC Health policies, procedures, and regulations as well as all Federal, State, and Local laws indicated in the Ohio Revised Code.
• Testify as a witness in court in connection with arrests and investigations.
• Perform safety checks throughout the facilities and grounds, including monthly checks of fire extinguishers and panic alarm systems.
• Conduct inspections and document potential security, health, and safety hazards; investigate discoveries; submit work requests as needed.
• Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in policing by reading relevant literature and attending periodic training classes, conferences, and in‑services.
• Keep informed of persons and places suspected of illegal activity or potential problems within an assigned area; enter or retrieve data from a computer terminal, PC, or other keyboard device; continuously improve operations by decreasing turnaround times and streamlining work processes.
