First Star Safety is seeking a reliable, mechanically inclined individual to assist our Shop Mechanic with routine maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment. This entry-level position is ideal for candidates interested in a hands-on role with opportunities to learn from a seasoned diesel mechanic. High school students in career tech programs or individuals looking to start a career in fleet or equipment maintenance are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with routine maintenance on work trucks, trailers, and light-duty equipment
- Support fluid checks, oil changes, battery inspections, and basic tire service
- Perform basic cleaning and upkeep of shop tools and work spaces
- Help load and unload tools, parts, and materials for repairs
- Organize and restock parts, supplies, and consumables
- Shadow experienced mechanics to learn diagnostics and repair procedures
- Support minor welding, fabrication, or mechanical repairs under supervision
- Help maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation
- Uphold safety and cleanliness standards in the shop and yard
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the operations team

- High school diploma or currently enrolled in a high school career tech or trade program
- Strong interest in mechanical work and hands-on learning
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly
- Willingness to work in outdoor and shop environments
- dependable transportation to and from work
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Basic tool knowledge and use of hand tools
- Some exposure to auto, diesel, or construction equipment repair
- Basic knowledge of vehicle systems (oil, brakes, tires, etc.)
- Welding or fabrication experience is a plus
- CDL or intent to pursue CDL in the future
- Own set of basic tools (preferred, not required)
- Strong work ethic and punctuality
- Curiosity and willingness to ask questions
- Positive attitude and respect for supervisors and coworkers
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Ability to take constructive feedback and apply it
- Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting for long periods
- Manual dexterity to operate tools and handle parts
- Tolerance for noise, grease, dust, and varied weather conditions
- Must comply with First Star Safety’s Substance Abuse Prevention Policy
- Post-offer/pre-employment drug screening is required
