The primary role of a Security System Installation Technician 1 is the installation and service of low‑voltage security systems at customer sites as directed by the Project Leadership Team (access control, video surveillance (CCTV), intrusion detection, fire detection, and visitor management). The focus of the Security Installation Technician 1 is improving their skills through formal training and on‑job experience as they ramp up and get a feel for the business and their craft.
Position RequirementsUnder the guidance of an experienced Technician, works as a helper to learn basics of the trade.
- Learn general knowledge of security devices.
- Learn and understand the wiring configurations of security devices.
- Trade skills to learn:
- Mechanical/Construction Skills (pulling wire, fishing doors, mounting devices, etc.)
- Electronics/Circuits (panel/device wiring, relays, Ohm’s Law)
- Programming (configuring systems, training end‑users)
- Project Management (communication, time management, efficiency)
- Networking/IT (router configuration, IP addressing, Windows OS)
- Troubleshooting (critical thinking, problem solving, researching/utilizing resources)
Real‑time Documentation:
Get documentation right the first time.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Desired Skills- High school Diploma or equivalent
- Related training at a vocational school or community college is a plus
- Screwdriver (6‑in‑1 or 11‑in‑1, needs 3 sizes)
- Panel driver
- Hammer
- Wire cutters
- Tape measure
- Crimpers
- Tool bag/pouch
- Knife
- Drywall saw
- Pipe cutter
- Flashlight
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, at times carrying items up a ladder.
- Climb stepladders and extension ladders.
- Walk & stand throughout shift.
- Work both inside and outside throughout a given year.
- Current and active (no suspension) driver’s license.
- Submit to a drug screening, background check, and BMV check (for insurance purposes).
- May be asked to wear personal protective equipment including hard hats, masks, gowns, and gloves.
- Must be able to speak, write and understand English in person and over the phone.
