Position Overview
The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems. The Journeyman Electrician will read and interpret blueprints and specifications and use the information to install new systems and troubleshoot existing systems. The Journeyman Electrician needs familiarity with various types of electrical systems, fixtures, and components. They must be able to repair and install electrical equipment and fixtures using a variety of tools and techniques.
The work of the Journeyman Electrician also requires them to conform to OSHA safety requirements in the safe use of power tools, ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and material handling equipment.
While the requirements of the role may vary from time to time, the major specific duties include:
- Transporting yourself, your tools, and your safety equipment to job sites
- Read and interpret blueprints
- Perform layout and planning
- Use a variety of tools and techniques to install electrical system components
- Ensure top quality electrical installations which meet NEC and owner requirements
- Test installations for proper function and safety
- Assist others where needed
- Follow a neat and process-oriented work style
- Supervise small work crews
- Work in all elements at all times of year, including rain, snow, heat, and cold
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Valid Journeyman Electrician License from a minimum of one state or municipality in the organization’s typical work area
- Current CPR certification, preferred
- Current first aid certification, preferred
- OSHA 10 card
- Aerial lift certification, preferred
- Must be able to constantly move on feet for a full day assignment
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, kneel, balance, pull, and reach above head
- Must be able to lift 51 pounds
- Must climb ladders of all types
- Must be able to complete overhead for full day assignments
- Must be able to transition from employee parking area or street to construction areas and gain access to all levels of the building even if the only means of access is an OSHA approved construction ladder or stairs still under construction
- Must possess good vision (normal and corrected 20/40 minimum) and be able to distinguish color
- Must carry personal tools at all times (waist tool belt weighing approximately 30 lbs.)
- Must be able to perform work at various heights, up to 90’, from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks, or other safe working areas
- The Journeyman Electrician may be required to operate a company vehicle and will be responsible for operating it in an appropriate manner. An acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (as determined by the insurance provider or Kings Electric Services management) is a requirement of the position. In addition to any requirements set forth by Kings Electric Services, the service technician will have knowledge of, and abide by, all safety and traffic laws in the States of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
- Journeyman Electricians are to supply and carry their own small tools during all Kings Electric Services work hours. Any power tools or large tools are provided by Kings Electric Services and checked out to each associate. Misuse or abuse of equipment is not allowed. Required tools include:
- Channel locks (2)

- Diagonal cutters
- Lineman’s pliers
- Needle nose pliers
- Nut driver set - 3/16”-1/2” and 6mm-12mm
- Screwdriver set - Philips and flat #1-#3
- Tape measure minimum 16’
- Tool pouches with belt
- Wire strippers
- Multi-meter
- Flashlight
- Socket set
- Keyhole saw
- Utility knife
- Plug tester with GFCI
- File – flat and round
- Torpedo level
- Tap kit
- Hammer
