Overview
Maintenance Technician – Xavier University’s Office of Physical Plant. This position supports a safe, functional, and comfortable campus environment. The ideal candidate is a well‑rounded technician with hands‑on experience in multiple trades and a proactive mindset toward preventive maintenance and timely repairs.
Responsibilities- Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment.
- Complete and manage work orders through the campus CMMS system.
- Prioritize tasks to ensure safety and minimize downtime.
- Work both independently and as part of a team to support university operations.
- Follow all safety guidelines and standard operating procedures.
- Be available on a rotational on‑call schedule.
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in a facilities or maintenance‑related role.
- Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and proficiency with standard tools.
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.), and work from ladders or in confined spaces.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with various departments and stakeholders.
- HVAC certification or licensed electrician preferred.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise, vibrations, chemicals, and confined spaces is common.
- Physically demanding tasks including bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, and climbing.
