Mechanical Contractor – Piping Foreman Position Summary

The Piping Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating piping crews on industrial mechanical construction and maintenance projects. This position provides hands-on leadership in the field, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project schedules.

The ideal candidate will have strong industrial piping experience, leadership skills, and the ability to effectively manage manpower, materials, tools, and daily field activities.

• Supervise and direct piping craft personnel, including pipe fitters, welders, helpers, and laborers.
• Plan and coordinate daily piping activities based on project schedules and priorities.
• Read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, blueprints, specifications, and layouts.
• Lay out piping systems and verify dimensions, elevations, and locations.
• Coordinate installation of process, utility, and mechanical piping systems.
• Ensure piping is installed according to drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements.
• Coordinate with project management, general foremen, other trades, QC, safety personnel, and client representatives.
• Monitor crew productivity and ensure manpower is being used efficiently.
• Identify material, equipment, tooling, and manpower needs before work begins.
• Verify that crews have the proper tools, materials, drawings, and information to perform assigned work.
• Conduct daily planning and communicate work assignments and expectations to the crew.
• Monitor work progress and communicate schedule concerns or delays to supervision.
• Ensure proper fit-up, alignment, supports, valves, flanges, and piping components are installed correctly.
• Work closely with welders and QC personnel to ensure welds and piping meet project requirements.
• Assist with pressure testing, flushing, system turnover, punch-list completion, and commissioning activities as required.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Enforce company and client safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct or participate in daily toolbox talks and job hazard analyses.
• Identify unsafe conditions and take immediate corrective action.
• Train, coach, and mentor less-experienced craft employees.
• Address workmanship, attendance, productivity, and performance issues with crew members.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, manpower counts, progress updates, and material requests.
• Perform other duties as assigned by project or operations management.

• Minimum of 5 years of industrial piping/pipe fitting experience
  , with previous foreman or lead experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical construction and piping installation.
• Ability to read and understand P&IDs, piping isometrics, blueprints, and construction drawings.
• Knowledge of piping components, valves, fittings, supports, and installation methods.
• Ability to calculate basic pipe measurements, dimensions, elevations, and offsets.
• Strong understanding of pipe fit-up, alignment, and installation practices.
• Knowledge of applicable safety requirements and industrial construction practices.
• Ability to lead a crew while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
• Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, shutdowns, and varying schedules as required by the project.
• Industrial construction, power, steel, chemical, refinery, or manufacturing experience preferred.

• Ability to work in industrial construction environments.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and work in elevated or confined areas.
• Ability to lift and carry materials and tools as required.
  
  Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

The Piping Foreman is expected to lead by example, maintain a strong safety culture, hold the crew accountable for quality and productivity, and communicate effectively with both craft personnel and management. The Foreman should be capable of identifying problems in the field and taking appropriate action before they impact safety, quality, schedule, or cost.

This is a field-based position working on industrial mechanical construction and maintenance projects. Travel and temporary assignments may be required depending on project needs.
