Position: RECREATION SPECIALIST (TR-INCLUSION)

Overview

General Statement of Duties:
The function of the Recreation Specialist (RS) working in an Inclusive Program is to facilitate the participation of the individual(s) with a disability in the community recreation program. The RS will work in cooperation/collaboration with the community center staff. The ultimate goal is to foster full participation of the individual(s) with a disability in the recreational setting.

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)
  • Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching, and instruction for individuals and groups.
  • Strategies to include individuals with disabilities in a group setting and how their disability may affect their participation.
  • Child development and age-appropriate behavioral expectations.
  • Skills To:
    Adjust actions in relation to others; actively look for ways to help participants; talk to participants to convey information effectively.
  • Abilities To:
    Communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand; tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong; provide supervision of an individual’s safety in a group setting; assist the individual with activities of daily living such as toileting, dressing, and/or feeding; listen and understand information and ideas presented through various types of communication; build working relationships.
Required Education And Experience
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • One Year Experience Working Directly With Individuals With Disabilities.
  • Must be able to lift and/or transfer an individual with disability independently or assisted.
  • Must be able to swim and be in the water to provide inclusion support to children with disabilities.
  • Must be certified (unexpired) or able to be certified within three (3) months of hire in CPR/First Aid Certification;
    Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. Certification must be acquired and maintained as part of employment.
  • Must have valid Driver's License for those positions which require driving.
Working and Physical Conditions

Environmental Conditions: Office environment with exposure to computer screens; working closely with others. Outdoor environments with exposure to extreme weather conditions; slippery/uneven surfaces; high noise levels.

Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical conditions necessary for lifting and/or transferring an individual with disability independently or assisted; standing, bending, stooping, kneeling; general manual dexterity required.
