Specialized Account Representative Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Overview

The Specialized Account Representative will primarily focus on outreach and consultation to the family of GECU’s deceased members. The Specialized Account Representative will manage the accounts via tracking family interactions, gathering of needed documentation, and assisting in opening of new accounts/loans as needed to process a deceased member’s file.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Review and process accounts of deceased individuals, ensuring accurate closure and resolution of all outstanding balances
  • Review and verify required documentation, such as death certificates, letters of administration, or other legal documents, to ensure compliance with company policy and applicable laws
  • Communicate with family members, legal representatives, and other stakeholders with empathy and professionalism regarding account status and next steps, ensuring the highest level of sensitivity and confidentiality.
  • Act as a consultant and subject matter expert to the decedent’s family to provide accurate, timely, and appropriate consultation for the decedent’s accounts with GECU
  • Work with the deceased person’s estate representatives (e.g., executor or administrator) to settle any open accounts in accordance with legal requirements
  • Coordinate the return of any over payments, refunds, or adjustments due to the estate
  • Facilitate the opening of new accounts, loans, trusts, and IRAs for surviving family members or beneficiaries, ensuring compliance with company procedures and relevant laws
  • Collect and verify the necessary documentation to establish new accounts, including trust documents, death certificates, and proof of identity for the beneficiaries or new account holders
  • Coordinate efforts between departments to provide a seamless and respectful experience for the family members and legal representatives of the deceased
  • Maintain accurate records of all transactions and communications related to deceased accounts
  • Update account status to reflect closure or transfer to collections, where applicable, ensuring all changes are documented properly in the system
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Must understand and comply with all required federal and state regulations associated with this position
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years of credit union or banking experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office, including Word and Excel with knowledge of DNA, Ascensus, and Meridian Link preferred
  • Good time management and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently in a collaborative office environment while providing coverage support as needed to the team
  • Ability to apply training principles into practice and expand knowledge of GECU products and services
  • Must understand and comply with all required federal and state laws and regulations associated with this position
