80 Hours Bi-Weekly

Starting Salary:

$ 22.75 an hour

Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification):

* Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.

* A bachelor's degree in sociology, psychology, criminal justice, or other related field is preferred.

* A working knowledge of social and educational problems of felony offenders would be a benefit for this position.

* A minimum of one year investigative experience in a human services field, preferably in criminal justice, corrections or law enforcement is preferred.

* Possession of a valid Ohio Operator's Permit.

* Experience with the Ohio Risk Assessment System (ORAS), Court Management System (CMS), and Jail Management System (JMS) is preferred.

Job Duties (Summary):

* Interviews and evaluates all residents for admission eligibility and prepares related reports.

* Coordinates all referrals from the court and assures maximum utilization of bed space.

* Collects all relevant data in regard to individual's criminal, social, psychological, familial, educational, vocational, background; obtains presentence investigation reports and coordinates any applicable diagnostic assessments so as to determine eligibility to the facility.

* Establishes and maintains viable and effective working relationships with the courts, jails, Probation/Parole Department, Prosecutor's Department, Defense Attorneys and other referring agents.

* Supervises residents for compliance with conditions of probation.

* Assists in treatment team activities including discharge planning.

* Prepares monthly statistical reports regarding facility utilization and resident demographics.

* Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to information obtained and processed in the operation of the facility.

* Transports residents to community resources as needed.

* Working knowledge of mental health problems, needs and treatment.

* Knowledge of counseling and demonstrated ability in counseling.

* Ability to gather, interpret, classify and analyze information.

* Ability to relate to people and to handle delicate face-to-face contacts and conduct interviews in a non-conducive environment and under occasionally threatening conditions.

* Ability to work independently.

* Ability to perform investigative research.

* Skill in oral and written communication.

* Skill in interviewing techniques.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, criminal justice system personnel, co-workers, etc.

* Visual ability sufficient to effectively operate office equipment such as copier and computer.

* Ability to work under stressful and demanding conditions.

* Ability to effectively manage time and organize workload.

* Ability to operate standard office equipment such as copier, computer and facsimile machine.

* Ability to read and prepare reports with recommendations.

* Hearing ability sufficient to hold conversation with other individuals both in person and over a telephone.

* Ability to deal with aberrant behavior in person and over a telephone.

Working Conditions

Correctional facility setting; moderate noise. Interviews individuals in jail and provides counseling in crisis situations.

Physical Demands

Work involves a significant amount of standing, walking, sitting, talking, listening, stooping and reaching with hands and arms. Must have the ability to recognize the signs or symptoms of current substance abuse.

Communications

Conveys and receives information in person and over the telephone.
