Family Service Worker at Head Start
Full-time
Qualifications- Required associate degree; bachelor’s degree preferred, in social work or a related field.
- Strong organizational, writing, and verbal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and manage a caseload of 60-70 families.
Responsible for providing case management services to families and children. Create and maintain positive relationships with families. Assist and support family involvement and engagement in program areas. Ensure compliance with all Head Start Performance Standards and HCESC Policies and Procedures.
Essential Functions- Adheres to the Mission and Vision of HCESC.
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of social work and maintains professional boundaries with staff and families.
- Works as a team member with program personnel to meet service area requirements and program goals.
- Relates to persons with diverse educational, socio‑economic, and ethnic backgrounds, employing a culturally competent approach.
- Shows respect for others by sharing information objectively and adjusting communication strategies for different audiences.
- Promotes a positive working environment and collaborates with staff to support best practices for children, families, and staff.
- Maintains full enrollment by facilitating outreach and recruiting families, communicating policies, and assisting families with enrollment documentation.
- Initiates and maintains regular contact with families, engaging in joint planning with teachers, specialists, and community contacts.
- Engages families as partners, helping them assess needs, set realistic goals, and take actions to reach those goals.
- Applies program policies, and meets federal, state, and program documentation requirements by maintaining accurate, timely records.
- Acts as advocate between community resources, school districts, and families.
- Facilitates parent orientation, parent committee meetings, and family activities.
- Provides case management and resource/referral services to families.
- Participates in staff meetings, classroom team meetings, and training opportunities as required.
- Assists in identifying potential parents as Policy Council members.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
