Job Overview
We are seeking a Part‑Time Psychiatric Nurse to join the Psychiatry Float Pool at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. The position is 24 hours per week on rotating day/evening shifts with every other weekend required.

Part‑Time Benefits Eligible - Expected Starting Salary Range: $37.00 – $43.02 per hour

- Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training
- Create a safe, stable environment using trauma‑informed approaches for patients with mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, aggression, self‑harm, eating disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Implement token economies to reinforce positive behaviors.
- Prevent and respond to crises using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention strategies and, when necessary, physical interventions.
- Lead and intervene in behavioral crises per the Stress Model of Crisis and individual care plans.
- Conduct safety checks, room and patient searches, and monitor environmental risk factors.
- Maintain compliance with departmental policies, hospital protocols, and regulatory standards.
- Apply critical thinking and clinical judgment to assess patient needs and develop care plans.
- Administer medications and monitor effectiveness.
- Coordinate and implement nursing interventions across physical and mental health needs.
- Provide support for activities of daily living in both group and individualized settings.
- Maintain observation levels with accuracy and compassion.
- Recognize changes in patient condition, respond to deteriorations, and elevate concerns.
- Lead or support structured group programming tailored to developmental needs.
- Engage patients meaningfully and observe behaviors to inform treatment progress.
- Build therapeutic rapport while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Stay current with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Complete certifications, licensure renewals, and Safety College trainings on schedule.
- Collaborate with nurse councils, Magnet representatives, and leadership to promote safety best practices.
- Report safety and compliance concerns promptly.
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, and incident reports.
- Review documentation from Behavioral Health Specialists for completeness and accuracy.
- Serve as the communication bridge between specialists and the interdisciplinary team.
- Participate in family‑centered rounds and provide updates to families.
- Use teach‑back strategies to support understanding of care goals.
- Contribute to shift reports, handoffs, and interdisciplinary care planning.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice RNs, social workers, allied health providers, and families.
- Assign safety checks, group facilitation, or patient support tasks and monitor completion.
- Engage in shared decision‑making through unit‑based councils or peer communication.
- Participate in performance reviews and clinical education.
- Support student and new nurse onboarding through mentorship.
- Collaborate across disciplines using the Interprofessional Practice Model.
- Assess cultural factors and individual preferences impacting care and integrate them into practice.
- Advocate ethically for patients and families, especially when they cannot advocate for themselves.
- Associate/Diploma RN from an ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA accredited institution.
- If hired as an external candidate without a BSN or MSN, enroll in a BSN or MSN program within 1 year of hire and complete within 5 years.
- Active Ohio RN License (other state licensure may be required).
- Foreign graduates must have license validated through Tru Merit per Ohio Board of Nursing code for foreign graduates.
- Pass Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Certification Course during orientation.
- BSN from an ACEN or CCNE accredited institution or an MSN.
