Resident Aide Shelterhouse | Greater Cincinnati Area Make an Impact Every Day At Shelterhouse, we believe everyone deserves safety, dignity, and support. We are a community of residents, staff, and volunteers working together to provide essential services for men and women experiencing homelessness in Greater Cincinnati.

We are seeking a Resident Aide who is compassionate, dependable, and ready to make a difference in the lives of others. In this role, you will help create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for residents during their shelter stay.

What You’ll DoWelcome new residents and provide orientation to shelter services, expectations, and available resources.

Support residents with day-to-day needs by providing information, basic assistance, and access to supplies/services.

Build positive relationships with residents while encouraging personal responsibility and participation in assigned chores and shelter groups.

Accurately document resident interactions, incidents, and services in VESTA and other required systems.

Monitor the shelter environment to help ensure safety, cleanliness, and adherence to community guidelines.

Respond calmly and professionally in crisis or emergency situations.

Partner with coworkers and leadership to provide quality resident care and support overall shelter operations.

Complete additional duties as assigned by leadership.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED.Availability to work 2nd ( 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm )or 3rd Shift. (11:30 pm to 7:30 am)
Strong attendance and reliability.

Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications Training, education, or experience in Human Services, Social Services, Behavioral Health, or a related field.

Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use disorders, or other vulnerable populations.

Experience in residential, shelter, healthcare, or community-based environments.

Skills for Success Compassion and empathy balanced with healthy boundaries.

Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.

Ability to stay calm under pressure and make sound decisions.

Team-oriented mindset with a positive attitude.

Organized and detail-focused documentation skills.

Comfortable using computers and Microsoft Office; experience with VESTA is a plus.

Ability to motivate, encourage, and support individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications & Requirements High School Diploma or GED required1+ year of customer service or related experience required

Experience working with homeless, behavioral health, addiction recovery, or human services populations preferred CPR, First Aid, and NARCAN training preferred or willingness to obtain

Must be able to work weekends and holidays as scheduled

Skills & Abilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to de-escalate conflict and respond appropriately during crisis situations

Ability to maintain professionalism and emotional control in difficult situations

Strong attention to detail and situational awareness

Ability to work effectively in a high-energy and fast-paced environment

Knowledge or experience working with homeless, mentally ill, or substance-abusing populations preferred

Ability to maintain accurate documentation and follow shelter policies consistently

Physical Requirements (% of time spent performing requirements)
Frequent walking and movement throughout shelter facilities (approximately 90% of shift)
Occasional sitting and documentation tasks – 10%
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds

Ability to respond quickly to emergencies or crisis situations as needed

Ability to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and overnight shifts as scheduled

Must be available to work 40 hours per week onsite
