The Family Justice Center Community and Court Services Coordinator (FJC-Coordinator) works directly with the Assistant Director of Community & Court Services and Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati to implement legal assistance for victims work in the Greater Cincinnati area.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct intake interviews and facilitate referrals of victims who may need civil legal services related to abuse; provide court-related services and advocacy to victims; and perform other advocate duties as assigned by the YWCA as time permits.

The Community and Court Services Coordinator will serve as a liaison between her colleagues who work in the venues served by the YWCA (emergency shelters, transitional living programs, criminal and civil courts; hotlines, support groups) and Legal Aid. They will ensure that victims identified by other advocates receive a timely and effective intake interview and referral for legal services.

The Coordinator will work with Legal Aid’s project clients as requested by the client to help them prepare a safety plan, provide crisis intervention, and make referrals for immediate needs. She will also be available to project clients on an on-going basis for additional resource referrals and updated safety planning.

They will establish and maintain relationships through periodic personal contacts with other agencies where victims may turn for help, with the goal of ensuring that the staff of those entities remain aware of the availability of civil legal services under the project and to facilitate intake and referral.

The Coordinator will maintain required data and activity reports and will assist Legal Aid in compiling that documentation for the semi-annual progress reports.

Plan and implement three culturally sensitive outreach events each year coordinated with grass-roots community leaders who have direct contact with the target populations.

Refer potential clients identified during outreach activities to project partners.

Responds to concerns from immigrant and LEP clients about the response from law enforcement and other agencies through advocacy, training, or technical assistance.

Assist in technical assistance and training for local law enforcement and other related community partners.

Assist clients with court hearings and proceedings when necessary and appropriate. Includes attending hearings.

Conduct risk/lethality assessment for all clients.

Submit activity and progress reports with periodic requests for disbursement of funds under this grant.

Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Clerical/General Administrative Responds to routine email, phone calls, etc.

Makes copies, prints documents, etc.

Maintains accurate and thorough client files and database entry

Files paperwork

Key Relationships Interacts with Assistant Director of Community & Court Services, Senior Director of Community & Court Services, other YWCA staff, Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati and other community partners, volunteers, interns, and other social service providers.

Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree in a field related to advocacy or human services or a combination of education and experiences.

Knowledge on immigration/refugee issues as relates to domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking advocacy

Bilingual

Must be flexible with ability to apply mature judgement and confidence with an understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence

Must be reliable and able to work independently

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Organizational and project planning skills

Ability to work with individuals from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic/racial backgrounds
