Backend Developer
Serve as a Technical Specialist working on Core Specialty's Insurance Platform (Duck Creek), responsible for the design, configuration, and extension of core insurance systems supporting Policy, Billing, and Claims workflows. This role focuses on delivering compliant, scalable insurance products by configuring platform capabilities, extending business logic, and integrating with enterprise systems.
You will partner closely with product managers, business analysts, QA, and integration teams to implement rules, forms, transactions, and APIs, applying industry best practices and modern integration patterns while working within the insurance platform ecosystem.
The selected candidate will be required to work a hybrid schedule (3 days in office / 2 remote) from our Cincinnati, OH or Dallas, TX office.

Build and customize transactional behaviors supporting key policy lifecycle events such as quote, issue, endorsement, renewal, and cancellati - on.
Develop, test, and optimize rules and logic that automate underwriting decisions and pricing calculatio - ns.
Design and generate policy documents and outputs (e.g., declarations, endorsements) using XML/XSLT- or template‑driven form technologi - es.
Design and implement integrations between the core insurance platform and external systems (e.g., rating services, claims vendors, finance/GL, document management, data platforms) using APIs and open standar - ds.
Contribute to platform design decisions with a focus on maintainability, performance, and scalability; conduct peer reviews and mentor junior team membe - rs.
Produce unit and integration tests, collaborate with QA on automation approaches, and support high‑quality releases with minimal defect leaka - ge.
Manage and optimize SQL Server database objects and operational processes, including batch jobs, data fixes, and environment support activiti - es.

Previous experience with insurance platforms prefe - rred.
Exposure to API‑first, headless, or modern integration architec
tures is prefe - rred.
Familiarity with cloud or SaaS delivery models, including upgrade‑friendly design and operational constraints, is a - plus.
Demonstrated mentoring or technical leadership experience, including code/configuration reviews and delivery owner - ship.
