The Mobile Diesel Technician I will perform DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties as assigned. The technician learns advanced repair skills under the supervision of a Mobile Diesel Technician II or higher. Work is frequently audited for quality. A successful Mobile Diesel Technician I complies with all company policies and achieves high‑level performance metrics.
DUTIES- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment in the company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, providing information or assistance, resolving problems, or satisfying expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document according to company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using a company‑issued iOS device and our proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss repair order findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Maintain the service truck through daily safety checks and inspections.
- High school diploma/GED and up to 2 years of related experience.
- Supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform duties.
- OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- Complete all company‑required training.
- Must successfully complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background check and DOT physical (or submit a valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining).
- At least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
- Valid state driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification
- ASE T4 (Brakes) certification
- Understand implications of new information for current and future problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
- Physical endurance for repetitive tasks without tiring.
- Communicate information succinctly and organized; engage in effective two‑way communication with individuals and groups.
