Position Summary
Position is intended for employees who possess a minimum of a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) and are seeking to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or to upgrade a Class B CDL to Class A CDL. They present a positive image to GFS Chain customers through courteous, on‑time, accurate deliveries of GFS products. They serve as liaison between GFS management and customers to report customer concerns and communicate all customer issues.
They operate GFS equipment in a professional and safe manner demonstrating attention to detail, safe work habits, working knowledge of tractor‑trailer, refrigerated van, and the ability to deal effectively with customers and the public. Must pass the required physical ability test for area hired.
- Complete driver training per Title 49 CFR 380 Subpart
F. - Ensure safe, accurate, timely, and efficient deliveries of GFS products.
- Build and maintain positive customer relationships.
- Demonstrate self‑control and situational awareness.
- Accurately collect customer payments and safeguard company funds following GFS banking policies.
- Perform all Sales Service functions by the 90th day of employment.
- Perform proper equipment maintenance, monitor reefer temperature, and report mechanical issues and damages in a timely manner.
- Complete daily check‑ins accurately and on time with no errors.
- Collaborate with management and sales representatives to communicate customer concerns.
- Perform daily pre/post trip inspection of vehicles and equipment.
- Complete check‑in process accurately and on time.
- Manage paperwork to include register, credits, pick‑ups, etc.
- Develop and maintain a good working relationship with other GFS employees.
- Maintain peer relationships in the field to share issues and ideas.
- Attend department meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Punctuality, problem solving and attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Goal oriented with a positive “can‑do” attitude.
- English language reading, writing, understanding and communication.
- Adherence to all safety/compliance regulations and procedures.
- Professional appearance wearing the GFS uniform.
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull product and meet other physical demands.
- Operate on‑board computer and handheld scanner.
- Operate GFS tractor/trailer.
- Operate a two‑wheeled hand truck with a load weighing up to 350 pounds.
- Use safety equipment to aid in lifting and carrying products averaging 50 pounds.
- Basic computer operations.
